Part 1 Some Notes On The Budget – Minimum Wages, Rural Unemployment, Unemployed Graduates, 90 Day Maternity

Two things have killed the Malaysian economy. The first was the 6% GST which gave the economy a coronary heart attack. The economy has still NOT yet recovered from the 6% GST that was imposed in 2014. Those of you who do not run businesses will not know what I am saying. 

The other thing that has effectively killed the economy are the Minimum Wages. It began at RM900, hit RM1,100 and now the Minimum Wages have been raised to RM 1,200 beginning January 2020. 

Then there is more confusion – RM1,200 Minimum Wages in major cities. What is a major city? Is this a legal definition? How do you define a major city? By population numbers? By economic output? What about small cities?

Kota Bharu is a State capital with about 150,000 to 200,000 people. A major city. But economic output is three buffalos and a tok guru per acre. So minimum wages RM1,200 or no?

Kuala Selangor is a small town, smaller population – not a major city at all, but almost every bank in Malaysia has a branch there. It is a rich small town. So Minimum Wages RM1,200 or no?

Because of Minimum Wages the unemployment rates have gone up. Do you seriously want to pay the SPM dropout Mat Motor RM1,200 a month? For doing what? There are SPM school leavers who cannot even write their names and addresses properly. They also get paid RM1,200?  If you do not run a business you will not understand what I am talking about.

Folks, in the Sarawak interior the  ‘sustainable’ wages for workers (factory workers, plantation workers etc) does not exceed RM600 a month – UNTIL TODAY.   Because of Minimum Wages, plenty of employers there are hiring ‘walk across the border’ workers from Kalimantan. So unemployment among other Sarawakians who are looking for Minimum Wages of RM1,100 has increased. This is what I heard from Sarawakian people who run businesses.   Sarawakians please feel free to say otherwise.

That is why there are over 250,000 school leavers who are unemployed in the rural areas and in the small towns (according to Murray of Asia Sentinel). The vast majority of them are Malay kids. Now they are turning to drugs, ecstasy pills, video gaming, watching porn and all sorts of other life wasting habits. They cannot get jobs because the economy cannot afford to pay them RM1,100 or RM1,200 for ANY job. 
Wage increases must be preceded by productivity. It cannot be announced by the Finance Minister in his Budget speech. Let me share a ‘narrative’.

Lets take the Milo factory as an example. The Milo factory was running on three shifts and selling all the Milo they could produce. Lets say they produce 50,000 tins a week. The workers were earning a salary. Then suddenly they get a Minimum Wage imposed salary increment. The workers are happy they get more wages. 

The workers also like to drink Milo especially Milo Ais which is about RM2.50 in the kedai mamak. Because they are now earning higher Minimum Wages the workers also drink a few extra glasses of Milo Ais each week. 

The same thing is happening all over the country. Since all workers got a sudden raise in their Minimum Wage salaries, they all start drinking extra Milo Ais every week. The demand for Milo goes up.  Soon all the kedai mamak restaurants are calling the Milo factory and ordering extra cartons of Milo. They need 70,000 tins of Milo per week now.

But the Milo factory manager says “Sorry I cannot deliver extra Milo to you because although my workers are getting paid extra, they are not producing extra. My factory is already working THREE full shifts a day. We can only produce 50,000 tins a week.“

So the workers’ productivity remains the same.
They still produce only 50,000 tins of Milo each week.
But their Minimum Wage salaries have increased, because the Minister of Finance said so.
This has created a ‘non-productivity-growth-driven’ incease in demand in the economy.

Two things will happen:

No 1. The price of Milo will go up. This is a certainty. The Milo factory manager will say ‘I only have 50,000 tins a week. You want 70,000 tins. Hmm . . very interesting. So how much extra can you pay?“

Say the price of Milo was RM20 per tin. So before the factory earned 50,000 tins x RM20 = RM1,000,000 per week. 

Now it is possible to re-calculate like this : (70,000 tins x RM20) / 50,000 tins = RM28 new price per tin !! Price has gone up by RM8 per tin – this is my approximation only. 

He can now earn 50,000 tins x RM28 = RM1.4 million per week.

His amount of production is the same ie 50,000 tins a week. 
But he earns RM1.4 million a week now. 

Why? Because the workers were paid extra Minimum Wages with no increase in productivity.

So what is the point of higher Minimum Wages when the prices will go up and make you poor again? Back to square one.  

(Err come January 2020 ALL prices will start to go up again. I guarantee you 100%).


No 2. Or to cater for the higher demand, Milo in Malaysia (Nestle group) will start importing from other Milo factories in Thailand, Vietnam etc. So there will be  a higher outflow of Malaysian Ringgit to Thailand. Our Ringgit will fall against the Thai Baht. As our Ringgit falls, there will be imported inflation. Prices will still go up. Back to square one again.

When you have a committee or a Ministry that decides what shall be the level of wages in the country – there will be TWO things for certain  UNEMPLOYMENT AND INFLATION.

Then Guan Eng announced that graduates will be paid a special RM500 allowance for TWO years if they can get and hold on to a job.  

The employers also will get RM300 per graduate they employ.
Huh?  What ??

So my wife and I immediately worked out the following :  
We hire SPM leavers to work in our jewellery business. 
They start off with Minimum Wages RM1,100 
(These are 18 year old kids who leave the key in the hole when they pull open the roller shutters, causing the key to be jammed into the rollers.) 
Now they must be paid RM1,200 a month.  
Amma ! Appa ! Kadavuley!  

Ok now we will NOT hire SPM school leavers anymore. 
Why should we? 

We will just hire a graduate at RM1,200 a month. 
The government will pay the graduate that special RM500 allowance. 
So the graduate will actually earn RM1,700 per month !!! 
Ammaaaaa !! Appaaaaa !! Kadavuleyyyyy !!
But as the employer I will get that RM300 allowance for hiring a graduate. 
So my effective out-of-pocket to hire a graduate is now RM900 only.
So why should I hire SPM leavers anymore. 
I will just hire university graduates. 
To work as counter sales girls. 
Or cuci jamban janitors in apartment complexes. 

Why? Why? Why oh why? Tell me Great Kahuna.
Because it will cost me less money than hiring an SPM leaver at Minimum Wages !!!

This is what the whole job market is going to do.
They will hire more graduates at Minimum Wages because the effective out-of-pocket for the employer will be only RM900 per month. 

The graduates will get RM1,200+RM500 = RM1,700 per month – so they will not complain.



But what does this mean?
It means the number of unemployed SPM leavers will increase by the thousands. Mark my words.
They will be made redundant by the university graduates.

Every sundry shop, barber shop, cuci jamban janitor agency, petrol station, brick factory is going to be looking for graduates. Pay them RM1,200, then collect RM300 from the government and end up paying only RM900 a month salary per graduate. This is no conspiracy, Zionist plot or Christian scheming. This is what is going to happen. This is common business sense.

Guan Eng says there are 500,000 unemployed in the country, of which 160,000 are graduates. 

Well now the 160,000 unemployed graduates will start putting 160,000 SPM leavers out of work. 

You might say why would university graduates want to work in sundry shops, petrol stations, cuci jamban etc. Hellooooo wake up. They are already doing these jobs. Have you heard of Food Panda? Or Grab Food? Engineers are delivering food.
Factories are even leaving China and moving to Vietnam.

Do you know why? Because all our space rocket manufacturing factories have moved to Vietnam. All our jetplane manufacturing industries have closed shop. There are few jobs left for university graduates. So they have to work in sundry shops and cuci jamban janitor work. I kid you not.

And now we are going to grant 90 day maternity leave for private sector mothers. 90 DAYS !!!  This will certainly increase female unemployment. Especially female Malay staff – because they have MORE children.
This is not my imagination lah. 

This is what is going to happen. 
The job market will react to this immediately. 

A female staff can deliver a baby in September, get three months off and then deliver another baby next September and get another three months off. That is six months off in 15 months !!  

Women are going to find it more difficult to get a job. 


Our policy makers like Thengga Mandey do not seem to know what to do to really develop the economy. They have no ideas. Some of them are wasting their time lighting candles for dead freedom fighters in other countries. 

So to make themselves appear clever they are coming up with rather stupid ‘populist’ ideas like these which wins the support of the workers and the lay people but creates unemployment, inflation, job losses and weak economic growth in the longer run. 

I have a suggestion : why not just raise the Minimum Wages to RM5,000? 
Why stop at RM1,200? 

And why not increase maternity leave to TWO YEARS? 
The mothers can then fully breast feed their babies. 

Malaysia is NOT YET A RICH COUNTRY that can afford luxuries like high Minimum Wages, 90 day maternity leave, 50 days public holidays (counting State public holidays).

JAKIM And The Extremely Corrupt HALAL Certificate Business

In Malaysia today, halal practices, or those that adhere to Islamic law, are deeply important for increasingly devout Muslims, who make up more than 60 percent of the population. The country’s Department of Islamic Development, known by its Malay acronym JAKIM, is the sole statutory halal certifier although it has neither fully operational forensic laboratories nor experienced staff, despite having enormous and mostly arbitrary power.
Industry figures have told Asia Sentinel the agency is deeply corrupt, with bribes routinely charged to certify establishments and products as halal and with a long string of other problems that endanger the entire process of what should be serious attention to religious requirements but which has none of those characteristics.
One of the casualties is the Malaysian Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), established in 2006 to take over halal certification from JAKIM and promote Malaysian halal products internationally. But in 2009 JAKIM, under mysterious circumstances, took back complete halal certification from the HDC and put it into a newly established department called the Halal Hub Division.
The HDC then morphed into a white elephant operation focused on spending hundreds of millions developing warehousing facilities in what were called Halal Parks with few functions. All of these, like the Labuan Halal Complex, have few or no tenants. Asia Sentinel visited the Perlis Halal Park in Padang Besar recently and found it mainly empty except for a tenant using the park as a staging point to smuggle goods in and out of Thailand. The rest of the HDC’s activities involve organizing exhibitions as an event manager.
Traditionally in Malaysia, stalls, eateries, and restaurants were known to be halal through word of mouth. The surroundings and Islamic symbols on the walls with signs saying “bertanggung halal” were enough assurance. These businesses relied on community recognition. Any premises suspected of not being halal would just be boycotted by locals. It’s only been in the last decade that authorities have been pushing small businesses to seek halal registration.
Today, only a small fraction of Malay sole proprietors and SMEs have gained halal certification. In addition, only a small proportion of international hotels and resorts have halal registration. SME owners and food and beverage managers of hotels say the major barrier to gaining halal registration is money. For many sole proprietors and SMEs who ran traditional businesses, the on-site infrastructure requirements were prohibitive and way beyond their financial means.
A dark side to the halal certification process has cropped up, however, for a process millions of Malaysians take very seriously but know very little about. SME proprietors and F&B managers told Asia Sentinel that JAKIM officials routinely request cash payments above the statutory fees in order to guarantee registration.
In addition, they say, Municipal Councils and the fire department also request cash payments above statutory fees to issue the necessary documents required by JAKIM in halal product and premises applications. According to one F&B manager, this practice is not just carried out by a few rogue officers. It appears endemic. One officer, the manager said, brought out his immediate superior to negotiate the payment.
In another case, a Muslim Lebanese butcher from Australia was setting up a halal choice meat cut butchery in Kuala Lumpur for retail and distribution. A JAKIM official requested a RM50,000 payment for registration. Due to the company’s policy of not paying bribes due to the firm’s religious moral philosophy, investment in Malaysia was immediately aborted.
Some SMEs have tried to circumvent the issue of corruption through hiring consultants or brokers who don’t have technical or religious backgrounds but rather, as one proprietor put it, seem to be “sleazy hustlers” to “facilitate” the process.
Companies have found bucking the system by complaining only leads to drastic consequences, like have their operating licenses suspended and being put out of business.
Some JAKIM officers, the purveyors say, are arrogant and refuse to assist in the registration process, leading to a backlash against certification. The high rate of application rejection is discouraging firms to apply, they say, leading to a black market in rented halal certificates, or even bogus logos, now in epidemic proportions that JAKIM can’t handle. As a consequence, 60 percent of halal registrations in Malaysia are to non-Muslim multinational companies.
JAKIM doesn’t have its own compliance officers on the ground, relying on officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade to assist. With Domestic Trade officers focusing on their own agendas such as price control, the whole halal regulatory system in Malaysia is undermined. Yet JAKIM’s overzealous actions over incorrect reports made by other parties have led to brand damage.
JAKIM is using the halal certification system to impose its ideas and opinions on the Malaysian community. Just recently alcohol-free beer has been banned in Malaysia, even though these products are widely distributed and sold throughout the rest of the Muslim world. McDonalds Malaysia doesn’t allow customers to bring in cakes that have not been certified halal by JAKIM. Words like ‘chicken ham’, ‘beef bacon’, and ‘chicken char siew’ are not allowed to be used on products certified by JAKIM, even though similar culturally derived food names are certifiable in other countries. JAKIM determines its own standards and opinions about the definition of halal without any recourse to appeal their rulings.
The success and credibility of the agency’s handling of Malaysia’s halal certification system are at stake with 90 percent of Malaysia’s companies outside the scheme. Research indicates that there is a public trust problem with certification, compromising the integrity of the whole halal system.
In order to keep up with the developing sophistication of the international halal trade, JAKIM’s halal certification process requires some innovation to assist Malaysian companies develop a competitive edge. At present, JAKIM’s certification lacks the supply chain tracking element that Thai exporters have perfected, called Hal-Q, and which leads the world with its Halal Science Centre at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, established in 1994.
The center focuses on developing standards, a haram (forbidden in Islam) ingredient detection system for certification purposes, halal food production system development with a Halal-GMP-HACCP framework, and developing consumer information systems through Apps, as well as general halal research. The Hal-Q system has not just been widely accepted by Muslim businesses in Thailand but has been taken onboard as an industry standard by many multinational food manufacturers in Thailand.
In addition, many Arab and European countries have also adopted this system and come to Thailand for training on Halal logistic management, putting Thailand more than a decade in advance of any system Malaysia has to offer. This has enabled Thailand to become one of the foremost Halal food manufacturers in the region today.
JAKIM could look at coupling halal certification with Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and ethical business ratings, such as Tawhid compliance. Tawhid compliance would take into consideration issues far in excess of supply chain management such as management practices, employee exploitation, sustainable production, community flow-downs, and other ethical issues related to business. At the same time, there could be a special certification recognizing the issues related to sole proprietors and small businesses.
In addition to the corruption issues, JAKIM as a certification monopoly has many shortfalls. Staff are viewed as unfriendly. The online application portal doesn’t work most of the time, making applications very difficult for firms domiciled outside Kuala Lumpur. State-level accredited halal certifiers are needed to facilitate easier application and processing. The Halal Hub Division should be made independent, with JAKIM playing more of an appeal and arbitration role for aggrieved applicants.
There needs to be more science put behind the halal process such as the development of standards and enhancing detection techniques, along with much more open public policy discussion. The current method of enforcement relying on the Ministry of Domestic Trade and local government needs rethinking.
However, the major issue in the short-term which is directly related to the whole integrity of the halal application process is eliminating all types of bribery and corruption. A halal certificate issued with a bribe involved under Islam is not halal. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) needs to make an investigation of JAKIM’s Halal Hub Division one of the highest priorities to ensure the integrity of Malaysia’s halal certification system.

Ok for the attention of  Profesor Zainal Kling, what does all this rugi, bangkrap, sudah bungkus mean? 

First, many of the companies and projects above involve taxpayers money.  All sudah kena burn. Hancur hangus.

And also when these companies / projects, cronies, billionaires go bust, it means less corporate taxes for the government. The Malaysian economy suffers billions of Ringgit losses.

Apabila syarikat – syarikat di atas itu gagal, bangkrap, rugi dsbnya maksudnya mereka tidak lagi menjadi sumber kutipan cukai bagi Kerajaan.  

Semua kaum dan lapisan masyarakat serta seluruh negara kita akan rugi.

Sekarang ekonomi kita sedang tenat, penat dan tak lama lagi punat pun susah nak nampak.  Kalau punat pun tak nampak, maksudnya there will be totally nothing to get excited about.

Here is a graph of the Malaysian government Budget 2019.

Prof Kling, please note that of the more than RM300+ billion Budget allocation, more than RM200+ billion is for Operating Expenses.  Maksudnya duit untuk bayar gaji Civil Servants, bayar pencen, bayar gaji Menteri, gaji Wakil Rakyat etc. 

The single largest component of the Budget was money used to pay the salaries and the pencen of the 1.6 MILLION Civil Service or Penjawat Awam. That includes people like you, Prof Kling.

Now please go back to that list above. How much taxes do you think the government can collect from all those companies and projects that have gone bangkrap, rugi and gagal? 

Can Utusan Malaysia pay any taxes? 
Can projek Lembu Condo pay any taxes? 
Can Felda FGV pay taxes? 
Can Tabung Haji Heavy Industry pay any taxes? 
Did 1MDB pay any taxes? 

The answer is ZERO or close to ZERO.

BAHAGIAN 3 

Civil Servants who are paid from taxpayers money VERSUS private sector businesses that generate tax revenues. 


There is a big difference between the Civil Servants who are paid from taxpayers funds versus the private sector which generates tax revenues. 

Civil Servants who earn more than RM3000 a month also pay taxes. But the important difference is that they are  paid their salaries from tax revenue.   So when Civil Servants pay income taxes – they are simply returning some of the tax revenues back to the government. The sum total of the government’s revenue did not increase. 

For example (say within the same year) the government collected RM100 tax revenue. It paid RM10 salary to the Civil Servant. Balance with the government is RM90. The Civil Servant pays back say RM2 in taxes. The government’s net position at year end is RM92. No increase.


The private sector on the other hand, especially the businesses, generate their own wages from its own effort. No effort means no salaries, wages or profits. The private sector also pays the biggest amount of tax revenues to the government. When the private sector pays taxes it comes from generating their own wealth and income. 

Now let us do some simple calculations. Matematik Darjah Enam.

Lets say a Civil Servant Grade 48 is paid a salary of RM5,000 a month.  One year is RM60,000. This money must also come from the government’s tax revenue (daripada hasil cukai kerajaan).

Bagi senang kira, bagi senang cakap, let us say that on the other side there is a  Syarikat Ah Chong that pays corporate taxes of  RM5,000 a month. Or RM60,000 a year.

So there is a balance. Syarikat Ah Chong pays taxes of RM5,000 a month. This money is used tp pay the monthly RM5,000 salary of a Civil Servant Gred 48.

Now here is how Ah Chong generates that RM5,000 monthly. 

Corporate tax is 28%. This means to pay RM60,000 corporate tax per year, Syarikat Ah Chong must make a pre tax profit of  RM60,000 / 28% = RM215,000.

So Syarikat Ah Chong must generate untung or profit of RM215,000 a year. 

Only then can Syarikat Ah Chong pay corporate taxes of RM60,000 per year. 

Only then can this money be used to pay the salary of just ONE Civil Servant Gred 48. 

Now lets say that Syarikat Ah Chong is a clever business and they can generate a pre tax profit of 10% from their sales revenues.   (This means for every RM100 of sales they get untung RM10 only (after tolak bayar gaji pekerja, bayar api, air, sewa kilang, raw materials etc).

This means Syarikat Ah Chong must generate sales revenues of RM215,000 / 10% = RM2.15 MILLION per year.

Only then can Syarikat Ah Chong generate 10% untung (profit) of RM215,000.

Only then can Syarikat Ah Chong pay corporate tax of 28% x RM215,000 = RM60,000.

Only then can government pay ONE Civil Servant Gred 48 a salary of RM5000 a month (RM60,000 a year).

This is where your salary as a Civil Servant comes from. 

This is how the equation “connects” the private sector and the Civil Servants’ salaries. 

Prof Kling, kalau nak harap duit minyak pula, Petronas sudah tenat, Felda sudah penat, Utusan Malaysia sudah tutup, Tabung Haji sudah lingkup, Proton sudah jual, MAS sudah crash landing. Semua sudah pelingkup.

We only have the private sector businesses, factories, traders and retailers to depend on. As long as they can generate sales and revenue, and from there they can make profits and from there they can pay corporate taxes – then a lot of people (including you) can be happy.

BAHAGIAN 4  – Aakhirul dakwaanan wa akhirul kalam.  

Now here is the most important part to bear in mind. 
Everyday I hope to learn something new. 
Here is something I learnt most recently.


These two pictures below (examples only ok) show a Bulgari boutique and a Yves Saint Laurent showroom. Both are in Paris, France. Both boutiques sell accessories for men and women – watches, handbags, clothes, perfumes etc.

Notice the expensive ID (Interior Design) of these boutiques. The expensive furnishing, high quality and very expensive fittings, displays, lightings, decorations etc. They spend millions of Ringgit just to decorate their showrooms.

Now I found out that there is actually an international  ‘world class’ industry that specialises in manufacturing the furnishings and the fittings for these types of boutiques all over the world – especially in Europe, the US and in countries where labour cost is very expensive. 

(When my wife and I want to renovate our kedai emas we just call our local renovation contractor – wooden cabinets, tempered glass, stainless steel grill – local style lah). 

But for the high end boutiques in Europe, USA etc a whole industry has developed that supplies furnishings, fittings, display units and decorations that are custom designed and custom manufactured. And this is a world class business.

The Bulgari or YSL boutique in Paris will call their architects and Interior Design specialists and ask them to “design” a new outlet. Their architects and ID fellows will know where to source their requirements – from Europe, from China, from Vietnam or from (jeng jeng jeng) Malaysia. 

I found out that Malaysian companies (the Syarikat Ah Chongs) have indeed penetrated this market. There are Malaysian companies who design, manufacture and install specialised furnishings and fittings for high end showrooms in Belgium, France and other countries in Europe and the USA.

So let us hope that they can make at least RM2.15 million from each showroom. 
From which they can generate RM215,000 pre tax profits. Insya Allah.
From which thay can pay RM60,000 corporate taxes. Insya Allah.
From which the government can pay the salary of just ONE Gred 48 Civil Servant. Insya Allah.

Prof Kling, kalau nak harap duit minyak pula, Petronas sudah tenat, Felda sudah penat, Utusan Malaysia sudah tutup, Tabung Haji sudah lingkup, Proton sudah jual, MAS sudah crash landing. Semua sudah pelingkup.  

Lets just let Ah Chong do what they do best. 
Please try to understand this equation.

There is a saying that Blonde has nothing in their head while their mouth spew nonsense to make men love them.

As a woman, I know it is true too with certain type of woman.

They can be educated, they can be uneducated.
They can be blue collar workers or prostitute.

Recently I met a person who claimed to be very rich, her appearance looks rich but her heart is full of venom and malice.

Her name is June Chan, from Johore.

Her true colour appeared on our third meeting.

In the present of friends, she is friendly but in front of strangers her venom self appear.

An hour to Summit by Grab and Taxi back was a total nightmare to tolerate but I held it in.

Subject that she opened up inside Grab were Najib, Mahathir, Prophet Mohammad, Quran, Bible, Money, Amway, my divorce and my son in Australia.

She said that she is not a voter because she does not believe it makes any difference to her life and business. It was wrong to over throw the BN Government and now wanting Mahathir to leave.  Then like an expert on Prophet Mohammad, Quran and Bible I was lectured upon.  Next she said she has never come across a person like me who is contented with enough to spend per day.  She loves money and without money she cannot live. Then for Amway, she says transaction are cash and never heard that goods can be bought through bank transfer. Then she called me a liar.  Next my son in Australia should not open  a cafe in Malaysia because the business will not be successful instead I should use the money to join her friend to do Green Leaf an MLM.

At all time she was dragging me into voicing my opinion so that she can scold and lecture me in front of the Grab driver.  I have learnt from experience to smile and keep quiet from such person.

If I make a police report, I am sure the Grab driver can testify what I have said here.

With age and experience I knew June Chan should be avoided at all cost, so the next day I changed my phone number.

I would like to add that June Chan offered me a job as her companion, two weeks for RM1000 on our second meeting which I accepted gladly since I was looking for something to do. As she had only a week left in Kuala Lumpur she gave me RM500 in advance, not knowing high tide was about to drown me.

It was on the 3rd day that I realized the biggest mistake I make.

Yesterday morning she messaged to said I have spoilt her husband expensive fish in the fridge because I off the switch.  So I apology and said I will replace a fresh one when she comes back from JB. Then she mentioned her husband said not to trust me. The nightmare started again this time lasting 11 hours. From there she went into messenger telling our group that I lied about staying in Daim’s house and knowing Mahathir etc and spinning another tale.  Because of her behaviour and lies I refused to have anything to do with her two friends she introduced.  The MLM girl and her beautician.

I do not know why certain people think because they have the money they can belittle everyone.  Now those in the group are revealing the truth about June Chan being bipolar and I am happy knowing I was not the only victim.

Mahathir wants to make Mukhriz, President of Malaysia

Mahathir came back to serve as 7th Prime Minister not for Malaysia but for his children.

Coalition parties within PH cannot do anything because they feel a sense of loyalty to the person who gave them Ministerial post. But is the Ministerial position that important to give up one’s principle and dignity knowing the damage Mahathir is doing to Malaysia.

Does anyone care for the country?

Coalition parties can claim in Cabinet Meetings everyone is given a chance to voice their opinion before a decision is make.  Let me tell you this, before any meeting Mahathir have already decided what he wants.  Mahathir would call up the Bersatu Ministers, Azmin Ali and Zuraida to tell them this is what he wants.  Then at the Cabinet Meeting, Bersatu Ministers, Azmin and Zuraida will show their support for Mahathir. So who benefits?

Mahathir has done this many times when he was the 4th Prime Minister.  In Parliament it would be the same tactic.  Certain people would be called up privately by Mahathir or Daim then at the one to one meeting a file is thrown on the table as blackmail or project is mention.  This is how bills are passed in Parliament.

To Mahathir, as long as his children and grand children are well taken care for the next 7th generation it does not matter whether Malaysia prosper or in ruin because he will already be dead.  It is also Mahathir’s wish to die in office to leave a legacy in history.

At the last lap towards his death, Mahathir also wishes to have the last laugh by destroying DAP completely. Mahathir has never respected DAP but because of his hatred for Najib, he had to push his ego aside, knowing that once he become PM again, he can do what he likes.

So the claim that DAP is controlling PH Government and Mahathir is laughable but then certain people are stupid.

Mahathir has no desire to mend all the damages he has done to the Malays and Malaysia.  Let Felda dies, Let Tabung Haji dies, Let Petronas dies.

GIVEN THE CHANCE MAHATHIR WOULD LIKE TO GET RID OF ALL THE SULTANS IN MALAYSIA AND APPOINT MUKHRIZ AS PRESIDENT OF MALAYSIA. THAT IS WHY THE 3 YEARS IS NEEDED.

Malaysia belongs to Malays, Shah Alam congress warns ahead of Dr M’s speech

SHAH ALAM: The chief organiser of the Malay Dignity Congress here today reminded other communities of their social contract with Malays, saying it was the basis of giving them citizenship which could be suspended if they break the agreement.
Quoting verses from the Quran, Zainal Kling said Malays, who he claimed “inherited the country for over 5,000 years”, could always suspend their social contract with non-Malays, adding that they were the rightful owners of the land.
“Despite our overtures, there are those who went off track, who wanted to manipulate us, who wanted to undermine our dignity, mock our religion, the Malay rulers and the Malays’ special position, and turn their backs on the social contract which is the basis for the Federal Constitution,” he told thousands who converged at the Malawati Stadium here for the congress, where Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has agreed to deliver a keynote address.
Also present were rival leaders from Umno and PAS.
Zainal said Muslims are allowed terminate their treaties with non-Muslims if the latter break the conditions.
“If people want to make light of these contracts, let us remind them in the Quran that there is a line – verses 3 and 4 of Surah Tawbah – allowing for the suspension of the contract.
“If people want to continue to transgress the agreements in the Federal Constitution, then perhaps the Malays have to return to Allah’s words in the Surah At Taubah,” he said.
He said Malaysia is for Malays just as Thailand is for the Thais, China for the Chinese, and India for the Indians.
The congress is jointly organised by Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
Organisers say it will focus on problems faced by Malays in the fields of education, religion, culture, politics and the economy.
5,000 years ago the word Melayu or Malay does not exist.
5,000 years ago word Bodoh, Gila Babi, Celaka, Muda Lupa, Pariah does not exist.
Today these words go hand in hand.
There is a saying, it needs two hands to clap.
I challenge all those who attended the gathering today especially Kling, Hadi and Mahathir to show proof in the Quran, the word Melayu or Malay was written or mentioned.
5,000 years ago those inside the Stadium did not exist yet they can proclaim the Quran mentioned them.
LET ME ASK YOU ALL, WHICH BLOODY HOLE DID YOU COME OUT FROM.
THE PERSON WHO ANSWER MALAY OR MELAYU IS WRONG. GO TRACE YOUR FAMILY HISTORY.
WHICH HOLE DID KLING, HADI AND MAHATHIR COME OUT FROM?
GO READ THE QURAN.  DON’T LISTEN TO PEOPLE WITH SELF INTEREST.

Malay congress to thwart Harapan’s succession plan

The Malay Dignity Congress (MDC) scheduled today in Shah Alam is anything about unity or dignity of Malays.
If there is an honest effort to mobilise the Malays for their social, economic and political advancement, nobody will have any serious objections.
In fact, Malaysians will welcome this move as long as this congress does not stray into another race and religion baiting.
But there are no grounds to say that the MDC will be anything but race and religion baiting for the benefit of some section of Malay leaders who have abandoned Umno to come into Bersatu, following the last general election.
This group or individuals, former Umno leaders, especially those who have joined Bersatu are behind this MDC.
In the name of Malay dignity, this group of former Umno leaders, are using four public universities as their cover behind this congress.
Strange that the Education Minister Maszlee Malik, knowing this, has nonetheless allowed the four universities to be used for political purposes. So much for the reform-minded minister.
The congress has nothing to do with Malay dignity but more about certain groups of individuals and former Umno members wanting to organise a gathering to ingratiate themselves to the powers in Pakatan Harapan, particularly Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
With the slow but sure development of crony kleptocracy, these leaders or organisers who have been left out of the economic gravy train for some time, are clamouring for economic goodies from the Harapan government.
What better way to show their presence or importance other than to organise this congress, invite Mahathir to give the opening address and provide some semblance of neutrality by inviting PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
But the congress is anything but neutral.
It is meant to shore up political support for Mahathir to continue as the prime minister and not to give up power to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim (photo).
In a way, there is an obvious realignment of the gathering of forces among those in Bersatu as well as from outside to support Mahathir from adhering to the Harapan succession plan.
In a nutshell, the MDC is all about shoring up support for Mahathir from giving up power to Anwar.
In fact, from a broader perspective, the MDC represents the coming together of disparate forces within Bersatu, Umno and PAS to thwart the chances of Anwar from becoming the next prime minister.
It is not that those who oppose Anwar love Mahathir. It is a large political game that has been rehearsed and played out for the kind of politics to emerge in the aftermath of Mahathir’s period as the prime minister.
If they can neutralise Anwar on the succession matter by shedding crocodile tears for Mahathir to continue, then the way might be paved for the realisation of the political fruits even if Umno-PAS coalition comes to power in the next general election.
This group behind the congress might be in Bersatu, but mind you, they have no political loyalty as such. They are only loyalty to those in power and what they can get in terms of material benefits, such as contracts and projects, just as in the heyday of Umno.
Whether Mahathir knows about the ulterior motives of this group or individuals behind the congress is not clear.
However, his flippancy towards the succession matter might indicate that he is not completely free in deciding on the succession matter. The whole idea is to abandon the Harapan agreement on succession.
I think that Mahathir should not have agreed to attend the congress knowing very well the ulterior motives of the organisers.
But he did, even in the realisation that Anwar was not invited.
There was no way they could have extended the invitation to Anwar when the entire thrust of the congress was to oppose him from becoming the prime minister.
The most unfortunate or tragic thing is that once again Malays are taken for a ride by self-seeking and opportunist politicians for their greed.

The Not-So-Enigmatic Success Story Behind QL Resources?


CAVEAT:  This is entirely MY OWN VIEW, I could be wrong here. It is mainly conjecture on my part.

 It has been said when you wish to emulate someone, learn from the best. QL Resources, a shining star in terms of stock price performance for the last 15 years, did very well again in 2018 in spite of trying conditions. 

 QL was founded in 1987, but its roots stretch back to the late 1970s. In those early years, Dr Chia Song Kun and his brothers harvested the calcium-infused shells of dead mollusks from a remote shoreline near their home village, which they supplied to local feed millers. The hard-fought success of this modest business allowed them to expand their product range and open new branches across Malaysia. 

 After establishing a core business in feedstuff trading the company grew through adjacency expansion, which led to diversification into food for human consumption. QL now operates in three distinct sectors: Integrated Livestock Farming, which includes poultry farming, feedstuff trading and consumer brands; Marine Products Manufacturing, which includes surimi and fishmeal processing and consumer brands; and Palm Oil Activities, which includes milling, plantations and biomass clean energy.

QL’s strategy involves the deployment of technology, capital and management expertise into populous emerging markets. Despite new market challenges and geopolitical risks, regional expansion in adjacent ASEAN markets is fuelling QL’s medium and long-term growth.
Dr Chia and his team pursue a strategy of strengthening and additional integration of QL’s value chain. This provides the company with more opportunities to add value, multiplies its ability to generate profit, increases efficiency, mitigates the business cycle risk that often affects singular parts of a value chain, and ultimately ensures consistent quality in the final product. Greater competitive advantages are held over businesses in any one segment of the chain as a result.

QL’s marine products manufacturing division is the fastest-growing among its three business divisions. It is involved in deep-sea fishing, aquaculture farming, surimi and fishmeal productions. Presently, QL is the largest surimi producer in Asia. Over the last 10 years, QL has achieved a CAGR of 13.59% in revenues for this division. It has grown from RM245.4 million in 2007 to RM877.1 million in 2017.

QL’s livestock farming division remains the biggest revenue contributor to the group. It has grown as a result of organic growth and a series of acquisitions. In 2007, this division was producing 1.5 million eggs a day. In 2017, QL produces 4.6 million eggs a day. It also produces 40 million day-old chicks (DOC) and 20 million broilers and trades over 1 million metric tonnes of animal feed raw materials a year. Over the last 10 years, QL has achieved a CAGR of 10.50% in revenues for this division. It has grown steadily from RM657.2 million in 2007 to RM1.78 billion in 2017.

QL has achieved a CAGR of 14.04% in dividend payouts to its shareholders over the last 10 years. It has increased from RM14.3 million in 2007 to RM53.0 million in 2017. QL has maintained an average dividend payout ratio of 24.51% over the last 10 years. For the financial year ended 31 March 2017, QL declared 7.25 sen in dividend per share. It comprised 3.00 sen in special dividend and a final single-tier dividend of 4.25 sen. The special dividend is one-off and declared as a token of appreciation to reward its loyal shareholders. As at 4 September 2017, QL Resources share price is trading at RM4.82 a share. Excluding the special dividend, if QL is able to maintain its final single-tier dividend of 4.25 sen for the financial year 2018, its expected dividend yield is 0.88%.

As of May 2019, FamilyMart Malaysia opens its’ 100th store in Melaka, earmarks to open another 50 stores in FY19 towards their FY22 target of 300 stores. While operations are not expected to break even in FY19, management expects the store chain to become profitable in FY20 from an expected store base of around 120 branches.

Today QL has a coherent, complementary set of businesses with a combined objective: to add value to our broad, resource-based Group.

  • Marine Products Manufacturing Activities

    • We are the largest producer of surimi in Asia as well as the largest fishmeal and surimi-based products manufacturer in Malaysia.

  • Palm Oil Activities

    • We are the leading independent crude palm oil miller in Sabah, Malaysia.
    • Own and manage a 1,200 HA mature palm oil estate, also in Sabah.
    • In Eastern Kalimantan, Indonesia, we own and manage a 20,000 HA oil palm plantation, of which 5,000 HA are mature.

  • Integrated Livestock Farming Activities

    • We are one of Malaysia’s leading distributors of animal feed raw materials.
    • We are also one of Malaysia’s leading poultry egg producers, with a production rate of approximately 3.2 million eggs per day.
    • We are a leading integrated broiler producer in East Malaysia

So which company did Dr Chia Song Kun patterned (emulated)  after? This is entirely MY OWN VIEW, I could be wrong here. It is mainly conjecture on my part.  Coincidentally, or not, it was after another Chia family… but from Thailand. I think it was more than coincidence that both have the same surnames.

To be fair, QL after making great inroads into the agro-farming, livestock feed, marine farming… did venture into something big which CP did not have a natural advantage, i.e. palm oil. The Family Mart venture puts QL back on the CP treasure map (CP own’s the 7-11 franchise for Thailand, the best performing of all 7-11 franchises globally).





CP or Charoen Pokphand Group

Key Dates: 
1921: Chia Brothers, from China, set up a seed shop in Bangkok’s Chinatown, then begin exporting poultry and pigs to Hong Kong. 
1954: The company diversifies into animal feed production and launches a subsidiary, Charoen Pokphand Feedmill.

Textbook Play

This post is in no way to dilute Dr. Chia’s business ability, rather, it is to highlight how an academic can parlay his book knowledge (case studies and research papers) with great entrepreneurship to bring about great businesses.

I am a great admirer of Dr. Chia. I would use the words “emulated” or “patterned” and NOT “copied”, when referring to QL’s achievements. I think Dr. Chia is easily Malaysia’s best business person for the past 50 years.

We all want to learn from the best. We buy good books on business, we pay for solid business centric magazines and papers – just to improve our knowledge and hopefully learn more about business insights and strategies. Dr. Chia is a fine example of learning from the best, parlaying his astute business knowledge, and executing very well.


CP In Everything Now

Just how much more can QL grow? Well, QL has managed to replicate CP’s top two businesses: Agro-Industry/Food and Retail/Distribution. That has taken a lot of effort for QL. We have to remember CP is so much bigger than QL because of its early mover advantage and a domestic population that is almost 3x the size of Malaysia.



Is QL Still Attractive As A Stock

Definitely yes. Just have a look at its long term share price chart. One caveat though, I think some investors have been too exuberant over the Family Mart business and has pushed its near term valuations on the high side. If I had been holding QL for more than 5 years, I would sell 2/3 at current valuations if not all BUT would definitely look to buyback when earnings start its next wave 0 when Family Marts shows better cash flows. Now Family Mart is in its capital expenditure phase.
